THEOFANO MELLIOU
FINE ART
Photobymanios
Theofano Melliou was born in Athens, Greece.
Conceptualizing
the
human
existence
as
a
multidimensional
field
of
exploration,
she
struggles
to
merge
four
different,
sometimes
opposite
personalities,
in
one
ideal
and
complete Renaissance Artist.
PAINTING
Theofano
Melliou
is
a
self-taught
painter,
frequently
seeking
for
technical
knowledge,
inspiration
and
techniques
in
the
studios
of
well
known
artists,
as
well
as
in
Saint
Martin's
School of Arts, London.
The
central
idea
of
her
work
is
based
on
the
expression
of
a
very
personal
portrayal
of
a
symbolic reality, always using the human figure in a leading role.
In
the
past,
she
was
intrested
in
fary-tale
illustrations:
Intentionally
simplified,
her
figures
of
the
human
body
are
inspired
by
the
atmosphere
of
fairy-tales
and
by
the
Medieval
and
Byzantine figures.
Later
on,
she
experimented
with
more
automatic
and
impulsive
techniques,
turning
from
the symbolic towards the abstract.
Today,
she
has
totally
turned
to
a
theatrical
and
symbolic
realism,
studying
the
meaning
of
light,
getting
inspired
by
the
Renaissance,
the
theatrical
scenery,
history,
the
ancient
Greek mythology, literature and music.
